Welcome to my Photography Home Page
My photography is largely Macro based - there is nothing quite like the effect of photographing an object in close-up. I still use an old film SLR equipped with a superb Sigma 105mm macro and then scan the images using an excellent but rather dated, Nikon Coolscan 3 into the good old RiscPC.
I joined the James Maude Camera Club in Mansfield some years ago and found them to be a very friendly and encouraging group - their then chairman, (not PC but who cares!), always made encouraging comments about work submitted by new members. I'm afraid this isn't always the case - I remember joining a photographic society in Nottingham and nearly gave up doing any further photography because they were so unfriendly and un-welcoming.
I subsequently graduated to becoming their programme secretary - probably the most challenging job because it entails booking all the speakers, liaison with the competition secretary and generally checking that all 39 or so events proceed without a hitch and finally providing a printed copy that needs to be regularly updated and re-printed, (RISC OS's - EasiWriter Pro+ comes into its own in this role - a 3-column programme can be simply produced, printed and converted to WORD to update the club web site).
I would encourage anyone who needs to gain more skill in this wonderful art-form to join their local camera club. Do submit work into the competitions and a good judge will help you improve your photography - composition and lighting are probably the key factors in what makes a good photograph. Much can be learnt from the skill of other members.
Oh no - this is starting to feel like a blog :-(
The Thumbnails/enlargements shows my competition wins - I hope you enjoy them. Time permitting, I will upload more in the future.
Apart from "The Bonsai House" all other images are scanned transparencies. The full range of greys in say - "Last of the Sun" have not been rendered accurately - due to the limited dynamic range of the scanner.
